Staff Reporter, May 22, 2025 : The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued a local cautionary signal number 3 for the country’s four maritime ports due to the formation of deep convective clouds over the Bay of Bengal. This information was provided in a weather bulletin signed by Meteorologist Dr. Md. Omar Faruk on Thursday (May 22) afternoon.
According to the bulletin, deep convective clouds are forming over the northern Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas, which may result in gusty winds blowing over Bangladesh’s coastal regions and maritime ports. Consequently, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra maritime ports have been instructed to hoist local cautionary signal number 3.
Additionally, all fishing boats and trawlers operating in the northern Bay of Bengal have been advised to stay close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
In a separate warning for inland river ports, the Meteorological Department stated that until 1:00 AM, regions including Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Cumilla, Chattogram, and Cox’s Bazar may experience temporary gusty or stormy winds from the west/northwest at speeds of 45-60 km/h, accompanied by rain or thunderstorms. River ports in these areas have been asked to display cautionary signal number 1.
According to another bulletin from the Meteorological Department, temporary gusty winds with lightning or rain, including thunderstorms, are expected across all divisions of the country over the next few days. Moderate to heavy rainfall is also possible in some areas.
