Dhaka, May 25, 2025: Tareq Rahman, the acting chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has demanded that a national election be held by December 2025. In a video message delivered on Sunday during the 18th anniversary celebration of the National People’s Party (NPP), posted on his verified Facebook page, Rahman emphasized the urgency of setting a clear election date.
Rahman stated that political parties, including the BNP, have met with the interim government’s chief and reiterated their demand for a specific timeline for the national election. He stressed that the BNP, along with other parties that participated in joint street protests, continues to extend full support to the interim government for reforms in public administration and law enforcement to facilitate the election process.
Expressing optimism, Rahman said, “Under the leadership of the interim government chief, a respected and capable figure, the nation will soon witness the most free and fair national election in its history.” He shared these remarks during the NPP’s anniversary event, underscoring his confidence in the democratic process moving forward.
