03 June, 2025 : The transmission line for the first of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant (RNPP) in Ishwardi, Pabna, has been successfully activated at full capacity. This milestone marks the achievement of the goal to transmit electricity from the nuclear power plant to Bangladesh’s national grid.
On Monday, June 2, the ‘Rooppur-Gopalganj 400 kV transmission line’ was successfully commissioned. Spanning approximately 158 kilometers, the line comprises 414 towers. Prior to this, two other high-voltage transmission lines—‘Rooppur-Baghabari 230 kV’ (commissioned on June 30, 2022) and ‘Rooppur-Bogura 400 kV’ (commissioned on April 30, 2024)—were prepared for the physical startup of the first unit. Each of these three lines has a transmission capacity of 2,000 megawatts.
Enayet Karim, Chief Executive Engineer of the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Limited (PGCB) at Joynagar, Ishwardi, stated, “The Rooppur-Gopalganj transmission line has been successfully activated. Once the first unit is operational, electricity will be supplied to the national grid through this line.”
This development paves the way for the supply of electricity generated at Rooppur to the national grid starting from December. It represents a significant step forward for Bangladesh’s energy sector.
