Cumilla, June 3, 2025: A severe accident occurred in Daudkandi, Cumilla, when a highway police patrol vehicle was struck by a covered van, resulting in significant damage to the police pickup and injuries to seven individuals, including a police constable.
According to eyewitnesses and police reports, the incident took place around 9:15 AM on Monday in the Puthia area under Daudkandi Thana, along the Chattogram-bound lane. A moving covered van was rear-ended by another covered van, causing both vehicles to veer off the road into a ditch. The highway police’s mobile team, led by Sergeant Nadim, arrived at the scene around 10:30 AM to investigate and manage the situation.
While the police were stationed at the site, a speeding Dhaka-bound covered van lost control and crashed into the stationary police pickup, causing both vehicles to fall into a roadside ditch. The police vehicle was severely mangled in the collision.
Among the injured was Constable Sagar Islam, who sustained serious injuries, including a fractured right leg. He was immediately rushed to Daudkandi Upazila Health Complex and later transferred to Dhaka’s Rajarbag Police Hospital for advanced treatment. The identities of the other six injured individuals have not yet been disclosed.
The police have detained the driver of the covered van responsible for the collision. Rescue operations are underway with the assistance of a wrecker, and traffic on the highway has returned to normal. The injured have been sent to hospitals for treatment.
Daudkandi Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rashed Khan Chowdhury told Kalbela that the police were attempting to recover two accident-stricken covered vans when another covered van struck their vehicle. Legal action is being taken, and efforts to clear the wreckage are ongoing.
