Keraniganj, June 11, 2025: A gang broke into the vault of an IFIC Bank branch located on the second floor of Ispahani School and College Market in Rohitpur Boarding More, Keraniganj, stealing Tk 15.20 lakh. The night guard, Md. Siam, has confessed to his involvement in the crime before a Dhaka court.
On Wednesday, June 11, Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Mahfuzur Rahman recorded Siam’s confessional statement. The court also fixed June 15 for the remand hearing of Siam’s two accomplices, Al Amin Hawladar and Imran Sheikh, who were arrested alongside him. The trio was produced in court, where Siam voluntarily agreed to provide a confessional statement. The court ordered their detention in jail and scheduled the remand hearing for the other two accused.
According to police sources, the robbery took place on the night of June 9, during a bank closure for Eid holidays. The culprits entered the bank by breaking an exhaust fan in the washroom on the rear wall. They disabled the CCTV system by cutting its cables and then broke into the vault to steal the cash. Following the heist, a joint operation by Dhaka District South Detective Branch (DB) and Keraniganj Model Police Station led to the arrest of the three suspects. Police recovered Tk 7.40 lakh from Siam’s rented house, Tk 2.40 lakh from Al Amin’s residence, and Tk 5.40 lakh from Imran’s home. Tools used in the robbery, including a grinding machine, iron crowbar, knife, and the CCTV DVR device, were also seized.
Keraniganj Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Monirul Haque Double confirmed that the bank was closed for the Eid holidays, providing an opportunity for the planned robbery. Initial suspicions fell on Siam, who claimed he was outside the bank during the incident and that unknown individuals were responsible. However, inconsistencies in his statements led to further interrogation, during which he admitted his involvement.
A case has been filed at Keraniganj Model Police Station, and investigations are ongoing to uncover further details of the crime.
