A significant meeting took place today at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan, Dhaka, between the Canadian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, H.E. Mr. Ajit Singh, and BNP Secretary General, Mr. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. The hour-long meeting, held from 3:00 PM to 4:05 PM, focused on key issues including the upcoming national elections, bilateral cooperation, and mutual interests in various sectors.
The meeting was attended by prominent figures from both sides, including Ms. Siobhan Kerr, Second Secretary (Political) of the Canadian High Commission, Mr. Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Member of BNP’s Standing Committee and Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee, and Ms. Shama Obaid, BNP’s Organizing Secretary for Faridpur Division and member of the Foreign Affairs Advisory Committee.
Speaking to the press, Mr. Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury highlighted the key points of discussion, stating, “We discussed the upcoming national elections and the role of BNP during the election period, as well as the government’s responsibilities.
The Canadian High Commissioner assured support for the election process.” He further elaborated on the potential for collaboration, noting, “Many young Bangladeshis study in Canada, creating opportunities for connections. We discussed how Canada could assist in employment generation and contribute to Bangladesh’s knowledge-based economy.”
The talks also covered trade in agricultural products, mutual interests, and cooperation in education and healthcare. Mr. Chowdhury emphasized BNP’s commitment to ensuring primary healthcare for all citizens, stating, “Our agenda includes providing healthcare services to every citizen through a robust primary healthcare system.”
The meeting underscores the growing diplomatic engagement between Bangladesh and Canada, with both sides expressing optimism about strengthening ties in various sectors.
