Dhaka, June 25, 2025: A Dhaka court has ordered the freezing of two bank accounts and a savings certificate worth Tk 1.14 crore belonging to Md. Jahangir Alam, the former personal assistant (PA) to ex-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The decision was made on Wednesday by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib following an application by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
ACC Assistant Director (Public Relations) Tanjir Ahmed confirmed the court’s order. The application, filed by ACC Assistant Director Piyas Pal, stated that Md. Jahangir Alam, 55, possesses illegal assets worth Tk 18.29 crore in his name. Additionally, Tk 626.65 crore is deposited across 23 accounts in eight banks under various companies and entities owned by him. These funds are allegedly linked to illegal activities, leading to a case against him for attempting to withdraw or transfer the money.
The ACC’s investigation revealed credible information that the accused was attempting to transfer his movable assets. Such actions could undermine the court’s ability to confiscate ill-gotten wealth for the state upon conclusion of the trial. To prevent this and ensure the assets remain available for potential forfeiture, the court granted the ACC’s request to freeze the specified accounts and savings certificate.
The frozen assets include Tk 1,14,75,329 in two bank accounts and a savings certificate. The court’s decision aims to facilitate the investigation and ensure that any assets acquired through illicit means can be confiscated by the state upon completion of the legal process.
