Dr. Yunus-Tarique Rahman Meeting: BNP Supporters Gather Outside London’s Dorchester Hotel

London, June 13, 2025 : A highly anticipated meeting between Dr. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the interim government, and Tarique Rahman, Acting Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), commenced on Friday (June 13) at around 2:00 PM Bangladesh time at The Dorchester Hotel in London. The meeting has sparked widespread discussion in political circles.

A large number of BNP leaders and activists gathered outside the hotel, holding various banners and festoons, as the meeting took place. Speculation about this meeting had been rife for days, with both the government and BNP confirming the event on Monday (June 9). During a BNP standing committee meeting, Tarique Rahman was entrusted with determining the agenda for the discussion.
Party sources suggest that three key issues—elections, reforms, and justice—are likely to dominate the talks, with a particular focus on the schedule for the upcoming national election. The BNP considers the interim government’s announced roadmap for elections in April 2026 as impractical. The party believes December 2025 is a more suitable time for the election, though internal sources indicate that it would not object to elections in January or February 2026, before the onset of Ramadan.
Notably, Dr. Muhammad Yunus is currently in London on a four-day official visit, while Tarique Rahman has been residing in the city with his family since 2008.
