Dhaka, June 22, 2025: Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has been taken into police custody. On Sunday, activists of the Dhaka North City unit of the Volunteer Wing detained him and handed him over to the police.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Uttara Division, Md. Mahidul Islam, confirmed the incident. He stated that the Volunteer Wing activists detained Nurul Huda and brought him to the Uttara Division police. He is currently in police custody, though no specific reason for the detention was disclosed.
KM Nurul Huda served as the Chief Election Commissioner of Bangladesh from 2017 to 2022. A freedom fighter in Bangladesh’s Liberation War and a retired government secretary, he oversaw the 11th national election in 2018, which sparked significant controversy.
