Dhaka, June 08, 2025: Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus has stated that the interim government is highly committed to the development of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the country. He made this remark in a message on the occasion of ‘World Accreditation Day 2025’ on Sunday.
Dr. Yunus expressed his delight that Bangladesh, like other countries, is celebrating ‘World Accreditation Day 2025.’ He extended heartfelt greetings to all stakeholders and partner organizations of the Bangladesh Accreditation Board (BAB). He noted that this year’s theme, ‘Accreditation: Empowering Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs),’ is highly relevant in the current global context.
Highlighting the significance of the SME sector, the Chief Adviser said it contributes significantly to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and plays a vital role in creating new employment opportunities. However, SMEs face challenges such as barriers to entering international markets, evolving consumer demands, and financial constraints. Addressing these challenges requires concerted global efforts.
Dr. Yunus emphasized that the accreditation system plays a crucial role in overcoming these challenges by developing national quality infrastructure, ensuring product and service quality, creating skilled technical manpower, removing technical barriers to trade, and facilitating access to international markets. Since its inception, BAB has been working towards these goals and has so far awarded international-standard accreditation certificates to 155 government, private, and multinational organizations, including laboratories, diagnostic centers, certification bodies, and inspection agencies.
