Iran is reportedly agreeing to a U.S.-proposed ceasefire mediated by Qatar, according to Reuters. A senior Iranian official informed Reuters that the decision followed discussions with Qatar’s Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.
Reuters reported that on Monday (June 23), after an Iranian attack on a U.S. airbase in Qatar, the Qatari Prime Minister contacted Iranian officials by phone. During the conversation, he successfully persuaded Iran to accept the U.S.-proposed ceasefire.
The Iranian official further revealed that U.S. President Donald Trump informed Qatar’s Prime Minister that Israel had agreed to the ceasefire. Trump sought Qatar’s assistance in convincing Iran to follow suit.
However, neither Iran nor Israel has officially announced a ceasefire. According to the Israeli news outlet Times of Israel, Israeli Diaspora Minister Amichai Chikli hinted at a ceasefire in a post on X, stating, “Thanks to Trump and Netanyahu for their bold decision. This will be remembered as a chapter of faith, courage, and moral clarity in history.”
Previously, an Iranian official had told CNN that Iran had not received any ceasefire proposal and would continue its fight against Israel.
