Dhaka, June 07, 2025: BNP leader and engineer Ishraque Hossain has sharply criticized what he calls a “vote-rigging setup” in Dhaka North and South City Corporations. In a post on his verified Facebook page on Saturday afternoon, he questioned, “Will you set up ward by ward and expect the citizens of Dhaka to stay silent?” He urged the residents and voters of Dhaka to come forward to free the city corporations from external advisors and administrators.
“Will You Set Up Ward by Ward and Expect Citizens to Stay Silent?
In his post, Ishraque labeled the current Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives (LGRD) Ministry as “controversial and corrupt,” emphasizing that the city corporations must be liberated until necessary reforms are made in the ministry. He stressed that this step is crucial for restoring democracy and securing people’s voting rights. He accused certain individuals of delaying elections and engaging in tender manipulations and transfers, drawing parallels with “Hasina’s plundering.”
Earlier, after offering Eid-ul-Adha prayers at the National Eidgah, Ishraque stated, “The politics of a hired foreign government will not continue.” He claimed that his participation in elections under the BNP’s “sheaf of paddy” symbol has caused issues for certain groups. He further remarked, “There is an attempt to deviate the country from its democratic path.” The BNP leader noted that his party has been protesting against “killer Hasina” on the streets for 17 years and remains well-organized to follow any directive from its high command.
Ishraque criticized a statement by the Chief Advisor, calling the announcement to resist the Left Democratic Alliance “regrettable.” He added, “We expected neutrality from him, but this change is concerning.”
