Dhaka, June 26, 2025: The National Moon Sighting Committee of Bangladesh has confirmed that the crescent moon for the Islamic month of Muharram 1447 AH was sighted in the country's skies on Thursday evening. Consequently, the month of Muharram will commence on Friday, June 27, 2025, and the holy day of Ashura will be observed on Sunday, July 6, 2025.
The decision was made during a meeting of the National Moon Sighting Committee held at the conference room of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on Thursday evening. The meeting was chaired by Dr. A F M Khalid Hossain, Advisor to the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
The committee reviewed information received from various district administrations, the head office and regional offices of the Islamic Foundation, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, and the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization (SPARRSO). Based on this data, it was confirmed that the Muharram moon was sighted in Bangladesh on Thursday evening.
