Sports Desk, June 8, 2025 : Brazilian football legend Neymar Jr., the country's all-time top goal scorer, has tested positive for COVID-19, his club Santos has confirmed. The star forward is currently out of action and in isolation at home due to the illness.
The news was first reported by renowned Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano via an Instagram post. He stated that Neymar began showing symptoms on Thursday, which prevented him from participating in training. A follow-up COVID test is scheduled for Monday.
The report was later corroborated by Brazil’s reliable outlet ‘Globo’ and an official statement from Santos. The club’s statement read, “Neymar developed a fever starting Thursday. After multiple tests, our medical team confirmed he has contracted COVID-19. He has been isolated since the onset of symptoms and is currently under medical supervision at home.”
Due to the illness, Neymar was unable to play in Santos’ match on Thursday. This is not the first time the forward has faced COVID-19; he previously tested positive in 2021 while playing for Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). With injuries and now this health setback, Neymar’s return to the pitch faces further challenges.
