International, June 8, 2025 : Former U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that his relationship with billionaire Elon Musk has come to an end. In an interview with NBC News, Trump stated, “I would assume so, yes.” When asked if he would consider mending ties, he replied with a direct “No.”
The fallout primarily stems from Musk’s public criticism of a presidential tax and spending bill. The bill, passed by Republicans in the House of Representatives, is currently under consideration in the Senate. Musk sharply criticized the bill, claiming it would add trillions of dollars to the national budget deficit.
Previously, Musk had donated approximately $250 million to Trump’s election campaign and briefly served in the White House, working in the Department of Government Efficiency for 129 days before stepping down.
Trump recently expressed “disappointment” with Musk’s behavior. In response, Musk posted on his social media platform X, claiming Trump would have lost the election without his support. He also hinted at Trump’s name appearing in unreleased files related to Jeffrey Epstein, though he later deleted the posts, and Epstein’s lawyers rejected the allegations.
In retaliation, Trump took to his Truth Social platform, labeling Musk “crazy” and threatening to cancel federal contracts with him. Trump further accused Musk of showing “disrespect” toward the Office of the President.
Musk has hinted at supporting anti-Trump candidates in the upcoming midterm elections. In response, Trump warned that if Musk backs Democratic candidates, he would face “severe consequences.”
