In Cumilla’s Burichang Upazila, police have arrested two individuals accused of murdering a 14-year-old boy, Hosain, the son of a village leader, following a dispute over a theft verdict in a local arbitration. The arrested individuals are Alauddin (21) and his younger brother Saimun (16), both sons of Solaiman from Shikarpur village in Mokam Union.
According to Azizul Haque, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Burichang Police Station, the incident stems from a theft at a grocery shop owned by Moinul Hossain in Shikarpur village two months ago. During a village arbitration, Saimun was found guilty of the theft and fined Tk 5,000. Hosain’s father, Abu Taher, was present at the arbitration and contributed to the verdict. Angered by the decision, on May 31, Alauddin and Saimun allegedly abducted Hosain from the road, took him to a secluded place, forced him to consume poison, and poured acid on his genitals, causing severe burns.
Hosain was admitted to Cumilla General Hospital for treatment. On Wednesday (June 18), he succumbed to his injuries while under treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Following his death, Hosain’s mother, Shahina Akter, filed a murder case against Alauddin and Saimun at Burichang Police Station. Later that night, police conducted a raid in Chandina Upazila and arrested the suspects from their maternal uncle’s house. On Thursday (June 19), the two were sent to jail through the court.
OC Azizul Haque stated, “A murder case was filed naming the two suspects. Police arrested them after a raid in Chandina Upazila, and they have been sent to jail following court proceedings.”
