In a shocking incident, a worker named Md. Hridoy (19) was allegedly beaten to death after being accused of theft at Greenland Limited, a factory in Konabari, Gazipur Metropolitan area. The incident occurred on the night of June 27, 2025. A 1-minute 16-second video showing the brutal assault has gone viral on social media, prompting the factory authorities to shut down the facility indefinitely.
Hridoy, a resident of Shuktar Baid village in Ghatail Upazila, Tangail, worked as a mechanical technician (on-call) at Greenland Limited. The viral video depicts Hridoy tied to a window with ropes inside an office room at the factory, being mercilessly beaten. Blood is seen dripping from his face and nose as he is dragged out unconscious. In the video, some individuals are heard laughing and commenting, “He’s been beaten so much, yet he hasn’t died.”
Hridoy’s elder brother, Liton Miya, filed a murder case at Konabari Police Station on Saturday night, without naming specific individuals. Following the case, police conducted a raid on Sunday night and arrested a factory worker named Hasan Mahmud, alias Mithun.
According to the police and the case statement, Hridoy went to work at the factory on the morning of June 27. When he did not return home after his shift, his brother and mother went to the factory, where they found workers protesting and blocking the highway over the killing. Upon inquiry, they were informed that Hridoy’s body was at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital, where they later identified his body.
Liton Miya stated, “My brother was brutally beaten to death inside the factory. To cover up the incident, his body was sent to the hospital. We demand justice for his murder.”
Konabari Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Salahuddin said, “All individuals involved in the killing have been identified. One person has been arrested, and operations are ongoing to apprehend the others.”
Gazipur Industrial Police Superintendent AKM Zahirul Islam confirmed that the factory has been closed for two days following the incident. However, the authorities have indicated that it may reopen on Tuesday, July 1.
