To facilitate revenue collection on the final day of the 2024-25 fiscal year, all banks in Bangladesh will remain open for transactions until 6 PM today, Monday. The decision was announced by the Bangladesh Bank, as confirmed by its spokesperson’s office to the media.
Typically, banking transactions conclude by 4 PM daily. However, to provide taxpayers and businesses with additional time to deposit revenues on the last day of the fiscal year, the transaction hours have been extended. A source from the Ministry of Finance revealed that the ongoing work stoppage by officials of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has prevented many taxpayers from submitting their dues on time, creating the risk of penalties. In light of this situation, the ministry advised Bangladesh Bank to extend banking hours.
As per the central bank’s directive, all banks will continue transaction services until 6 PM today, ensuring taxpayers can clear their pending revenue payments without disruption. This measure is expected to boost revenue collection efforts significantly.
