56 life-sentenced prisoners by waiving their remaining sentences

The government has ordered the release of 56 life-sentenced prisoners by waiving their remaining sentences. These prisoners had been incarcerated for over 20 years, leading to the decision to commute their remaining sentences.

On Tuesday (July 1), Md. Jannat-Ul Farhad, Assistant Inspector General (Media and Development) of the Prison Directorate, confirmed this development.

He stated that, under the authority granted by Section 401(1) of the Code of Criminal Procedure and in accordance with Rule 569 of the Jail Code, the government has mercifully waived the remaining sentences of 56 life-sentenced prisoners who have completed 20 years of imprisonment, including remission, and ordered their release.
However, the Prison Directorate has not disclosed the names or identities of the 56 prisoners whose sentences have been commuted.
