6,950 Families Still Trapped by Floodwaters in Feni, 29,700 People Affected

Due to the disaster caused by heavy rainfall and hill torrents from upstream, approximately 6,950 families remain trapped by floodwaters in Feni, with an estimated 29,700 people affected across five upazilas.

According to a report by the National Disaster Response Coordination Center (NDRCC) under the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief on Monday (July 14), the water levels of the Muhuri, Kohua, and Silonia rivers in Feni rose above the danger level due to excessive rainfall and hill torrents from upstream, leading to breaches in embankments at 36 points (19 in Parshuram and 17 in Fulgazi). As a result, 137 villages (44 in Parshuram, 67 in Fulgazi, 15 in Chhagalnaiya, 9 in Feni Sadar, and 2 in Daganbhuiyan) were inundated. Currently, floodwaters have receded from 130 villages, and the overall flood situation in the district is gradually improving. The report further states that all rivers in the district are now flowing below the danger level. At present, 6,950 families remain waterlogged, and approximately 29,700 people across five upazilas have been affected. Most of those who sought shelter in relief centers have returned home. Currently, 365 people from 88 families are staying in six shelter centers across three upazilas (1 in Parshuram, 4 in Fulgazi, and 1 in Daganbhuiyan). Emergency meetings of the District Disaster Management Committee were held on July 8 at 7:00 PM and July 11 at 7:30 PM, attended by the Advisor and Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief. **Relief Efforts by Feni District Administration** The Feni district administration has allocated Tk 23.5 lakh in cash and 160 tons of rice for relief operations in Fulgazi, Parshuram, Chhagalnaiya, Sonagazi, Daganbhuiyan, and Feni Sadar upazilas.
