Afeida, Sapna, and Shaheda to Represent Bhutan’s RTC in AFC Women’s Champions League

Although no Bangladeshi club is competing in this year’s AFC Women’s Champions League, five players from Bangladesh will proudly represent the nation in Asia’s premier women’s club football tournament. National team captain Afeida Khandaker, midfielder Sapna Rani, and forward Shaheda Akter Ripa will join Bhutan’s Royal Thimphu College FC (RTC), as confirmed by sources from the Bangladesh Football Federation.

RTC, the defending champions of the Bhutan Women’s League, have been placed in Group D of the AFC Women’s Champions League Preliminary Round. They will face Naegohyang FC of North Korea, Masters Seven FC of host nation Laos, and Kaohsiung FC of Chinese Taipei. The matches are scheduled at the Laos National Stadium on 25, 28, and 31 August.

This is RTC’s second consecutive appearance in the tournament. Last season, they hosted their group matches but failed to advance, losing both games. At that time, Bangladeshi player Ritu Porna Chakma represented RTC. She now plays for another Bhutanese club. With Afeida, Sapna, and Shaheda joining, RTC will have five Bangladeshi players in their squad. Previously, Tahura and Shamsunnahar Jr were the first Bangladeshi players to sign with the club. Currently, 15 Bangladeshi players are either playing or set to play in Bhutan’s domestic women’s league, with 10 initially joining, followed by two more, and now the latest trio. Sanjida Akter, who plays for Thimphu City FC, is currently in Bangladesh attending a coaching course.
