Allegations of Assault and Gang Rape Over Extortion in Bhola’s Tazumuddin

In a shocking incident in the Kamarapatti area of Tazumuddin Upazila, Bhola, a man was allegedly beaten and his wife gang-raped over a demand for extortion money by individuals linked to the Upazila Shramik Dal and Chhatra Dal. The incident occurred on Sunday (June 29, 2025) morning. The victim has filed a case at Tazumuddin Police Station, confirmed by the Officer-in-Charge (OC), Md. Mahabbat Khan.

According to the victim’s complaint, a young man from Shambhupur Union was called to a house on Saturday (June 28) night, where he was tortured throughout the night over a demand for extortion money. The accused include Md. Farid Uddin, joint general secretary of Upazila Shramik Dal, Rasel, convener of Tazumuddin Government College Chhatra Dal, his brother Alauddin, and others. On Sunday morning, the victim’s wife was asked to bring money to secure her husband’s release. Upon arriving at the scene, a demand for 4 lakh taka was made. When she refused to pay, her husband was tied up and beaten, and she was allegedly gang-raped.

The complaint further states that the husband was beaten with SS pipes and rods, leaving him bloodied. Subsequently, the wife was gang-raped by Md. Farid Uddin, Alauddin, and another accomplice. After the assault, the couple was threatened not to disclose the incident and sent home. Following the ordeal, the raped woman attempted suicide but was rescued by neighbors. She later contacted the 999 emergency helpline to report the incident. That night, police took the couple to the station.
Efforts to contact Md. Farid Uddin, the joint general secretary of Upazila Shramik Dal, were unsuccessful. OC Md. Mahabbat Khan confirmed that a case of gang rape has been filed, and the police are actively working to arrest the accused
