CCTV footage captured armed individuals entering a hospital in Patna, Bihar, on July 17, 2025, and fatally shooting a patient. The chilling incident, recorded on hospital cameras, shows five gunmen entering the facility, targeting a patient’s cabin, and fleeing after the attack. This is not a scene from a movie but a stark reality in Bihar.
The CCTV footage reveals the assailants drawing their weapons, entering the cabin, and shooting Chandan Mishra, who succumbed to his injuries. Mishra, a notorious criminal with multiple murder cases against him, was on parole for medical treatment and admitted to Paras Hospital in Patna. The attack occurred on Thursday morning, and police suspect a rival gang, possibly the Chandan Sheru gang, was behind it.
Patna Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikay Sharma stated, “Chandan Mishra, a resident of Buxar district, had dozens of murder cases registered against him. He was transferred from Buxar to Bhagalpur jail and was on parole for treatment at Paras Hospital. A rival gang shot him, and he died during treatment. We are working with Buxar police to identify the attackers.”
Authorities are also investigating potential involvement of hospital security personnel in the incident. The attack has reignited concerns about Bihar’s deteriorating law and order situation, especially in the state capital, Patna. Recent weeks have seen several high-profile murders, including those of businessman Gopal Khemka, BJP leader Surendra Kewat, and lawyer Jitendra Mahato.
Bihar’s Director General of Police (DGP) Vinay Kumar told NDTV, “Various measures are being taken to control crime. Compared to 2004, when four atrocities occurred daily, crime has reduced significantly. Last year, around 2,700 murders were reported, about 1,300 fewer than in 2004.” He added that Mishra, linked to nearly three dozen cases, was a known associate of a notorious Buxar criminal and was recently paroled for treatment. Despite Paras Hospital’s security measures, including checks for visitors, the police are probing how the assailants gained access to the cabin
