Army Clash with UPDF in Rangamati, Weapons Recovered

In a recent operation, the Bangladesh Army engaged in a firefight with members of the United People’s Democratic Front (UPDF) in Rangamati, resulting in the recovery of arms and ammunition.

According to a statement released by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, the army conducted an operation in a remote hilly area of Baghaihat, Rangamati, targeting a UPDF hideout. During the operation, an exchange of gunfire occurred between the army and UPDF members. The forces recovered an AK-47 rifle along with other ammunition.

The ISPR stated that the operation is still ongoing, and further details will be provided soon. In a related incident, on Sunday, July 27, 2025, Khuku Chakma (41), a member of the Democratic Youth Forum, an affiliate of UPDF, was shot dead by miscreants in Panchhari, Khagrachhari. Jiko Tripura, the central president of the Democratic Youth Forum, blamed the Parbatya Chattagram Jana Samhati Samiti (JSS), led by Santu Larma, for the killing.
In a press release issued on Sunday night, Shyamal Chakma, the central office secretary of the Democratic Youth Forum, stated that Khuku Chakma was visiting a friend in Ugudochhari village, Chengi Union, Panchhari, around 3:00 PM when an armed group led by Piklu Chakma of JSS opened fire on her. She was shot in the leg and seriously injured. The assailants then took her alive, held a gun to her, and shot her dead before fleeing the scene.
