The first day of the second round of a three-day trade discussion between Bangladesh and the United States concluded in Washington, D.C., covering nearly all critical aspects of bilateral trade relations. The talks began on Thursday, July 10, 2025, as confirmed by Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser, in a Facebook post.
The Bangladesh delegation was led by Sheikh Bashiruddin, Adviser to the Chief Adviser on Trade Affairs. Joining virtually from Dhaka were National Security Adviser Dr. Khalilur Rahman and Foyez Ahmad Taiyyab, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser on ICT and Telecom. Senior officials from Bangladesh’s Commerce Ministry also participated. The U.S. side included senior officials from agencies related to agriculture, energy, trade, and copyright. The next phase of discussions is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. on Thursday, with meetings set to continue on Friday. According to the Press Secretary, Bangladesh is optimistic about finalizing the trade agreement swiftly, building on the progress made during the first round of fruitful talks on June 27. The primary goal is to ensure balanced trade and mutual benefits. The talks have gained significance following the U.S. announcement of a 35% tariff on Bangladeshi goods. Bangladesh aims to reduce this tariff rate and secure additional trade benefits through these negotiations.Thursday, July 10, 2025
