Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus to Launch Month-Long July Uprising Commemoration

Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus will inaugurate a month-long program to commemorate the July Uprising today at 11:00 AM from the Chief Adviser’s Office. The event will be broadcast live on Bangladesh Television, as announced by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing on Tuesday, July 1.

On June 24, the Press Wing declared the ‘July Memory Celebration’ program, set to run from July 1 to August 5. The initiative aims to honor the martyrs of the July Uprising and demand justice for the atrocities committed during the movement.

On the first day of the program, prayers and observances will be held at mosques, temples, churches, pagodas, and other religious institutions across the country in memory of the martyrs. A July calendar will be unveiled, and a mass signature campaign demanding justice for the perpetrators will begin, continuing until August 1. Additionally, the National University will launch a scholarship program in honor of the July martyrs. According to the Chief Adviser’s Office, Prof. Yunus will formally inaugurate the July calendar today. Further events are scheduled for July 5, July 7, and July 14. The program will conclude on August 5, marked as ‘36 July,’ with activities including video-sharing events, floral tributes at martyrs’ memorials in 36 district centers, a meeting between the Chief Adviser and martyrs’ families, a victory procession toward Manik Mia Avenue, an air show, musical performances, screenings of documentaries such as *36 Days of July*, and a drone show.
The July Uprising, also known as the July Revolution, led to the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government on August 5 last year, following month-long protests sparked by the anti-discrimination student movement.
