After 17 years, Saif Powertec, a much-discussed company, is set to hand over operations of the New Mooring Container Terminal (NCT) at Chittagong Port. The Bangladesh Navy will now take charge of the terminal’s operations.
With the contract term expiring, Chittagong Dry Dock Limited, a state-owned entity under the Bangladesh Navy, will assume responsibility for operating the NCT starting Monday, July 7. The Chittagong Port Authority has finalized a decision to sign an agreement with Chittagong Dry Dock Limited for this purpose. Chittagong Port Authority Secretary Md. Omar Faruk confirmed to Kalbela that the agreement will be signed on Monday. He stated that the port authority’s board has approved a six-month contract with Chittagong Dry Dock Limited, as per the government’s decision. On Monday, Saif Powertec will formally hand over operations, and Chittagong Dry Dock Limited will begin managing the NCT. Chittagong Dry Dock Limited, a state-owned enterprise operated by the Bangladesh Navy, specializes in military ship repairs and is located within the Chittagong Port premises. Although Saif Powertec is relinquishing control of the NCT, it will continue to operate the Chittagong Container Terminal (CCT) as per its existing contract. The other two container terminals at Chittagong Port are the General Cargo Berth (Container and Bulk - GCB) and the Patenga Container Terminal (PCT).Sunday, July 6, 2025
