Israel Conducts Multiple Airstrikes on Houthi-Controlled Red Sea Facilities

Israel launched coordinated airstrikes on several strategic facilities in Yemen’s Houthi-controlled western region along the Red Sea on Sunday, July 6, according to Shafaq News. The attacks targeted Hodeidah city, Ras Isa, the As-Salif port, and the Ras Katib power plant, all considered tactically significant locations.

Houthi-affiliated Al-Masirah television reported that Israeli warplanes struck these targets. The Houthis claimed they activated robust air defense systems and used locally developed missiles to counter the assault. Houthi military spokesperson Brigadier General Yahya Saree asserted that their resistance forced several Israeli aircraft to retreat, though these claims remain unverified. No confirmed reports of casualties or significant damage have been received so far. Israeli military spokesperson Avichai Adraee stated on X that the targeted facilities were being used as bases for weapons smuggling from Iran and for Houthi-led maritime attacks in the Red Sea. He added that the Israeli forces also struck the *Galaxy Leader*, a commercial vessel seized by the Houthis in November 2023. Although operated by a Japanese company, the ship is linked to an Israeli-associated entity. In a separate incident on Sunday, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations reported that a commercial vessel in the Red Sea was attacked by a Houthi-linked armed boat using RPGs and firearms. The ship’s security team repelled the assault, forcing the attackers to retreat, with no reported casualties or damage. The United Nations and other international organizations have warned that attacks on maritime routes, port infrastructure, and the risk of war crimes could precipitate a full-scale crisis in the region.
