Fake Army Personnel Caught Attempting Marriage Fraud, Groom and Matchmaker Beaten

Dressed in neat attire with a military-style haircut, carrying an army ID card and a photo in military uniform, anyone would assume he was an army personnel. This is how the individual arrived to arrange a marriage, accompanied by a matchmaker, introducing himself as Abu Said, an army officer.

However, suspicion arose from the bride’s family’s matchmaker, leading to further questioning. It was eventually revealed that he was not an army personnel. Enraged by the deception, the groom and the matchmaker were beaten and handed over to the police.

The incident took place in Pathanpara Bazar, Khetlal Upazila, Joypurhat, on Thursday (July 24) afternoon. The two individuals involved are Sadrul Islam (38) from Harinathpur Bishpukur village, Gobindaganj Thana, Gaibandha, and Abdur Rahim (50) from Hope village, Khetlal. According to local sources, Sadrul Islam posed as an army officer and contacted Abdur Rahim, a local matchmaker from Hope village, to arrange a marriage. Abdur Rahim connected him with a family in the same village for a potential bride. Sadrul, hiding his real identity, introduced himself as Abu Said. Abdur Rahim coordinated with another matchmaker from the bride’s side, and discussions took place at Pathanpara Bazar. During the conversation, suspicion arose regarding Sadrul’s behavior and ID card. Upon questioning, he admitted he was not an army officer. The bride’s family and locals present at the scene learned of the deception and detained the two individuals, beating them before informing the police. Khetlal Thana police arrived at the scene and took the duo into custody.
Khetlal Thana’s Inspector (Investigation) SM Kamal Hossain said, “The two individuals were rescued from the scene and brought to the police station. The person posing as an army officer has two prior cases against him for similar fraudulent activities. Legal action is being taken against them.”
