Father Arrested for Strangling Daughter to Death in Kushtia

In Kushtia’s Bheramara, police have arrested a man named Md. Amir Hossain Bepari for allegedly strangling his daughter, Ainun Nahar Anita (26), to death. The victim’s mother, Mst. Taslima Khatun, filed a murder case against her husband at Bheramara Police Station, naming him as the prime suspect.

The incident occurred on July 12 in Ramchandrapur village, Bheramara upazila. On Monday, July 14, the accused was sent to court for a confessional statement, where he admitted to the crime. He is currently in custody.

According to local residents and police sources, Anita had been living at her father’s house for the past three months due to marital disputes with her second husband, Mahin. On July 12, Anita decided to return to her husband’s home, which enraged her father, Amir Hossain. In a fit of anger, he allegedly used her scarf to strangle her to death. Following the incident, Taslima Khatun, Anita’s mother, lodged a murder case against her husband. Taslima Khatun stated, “I had gone out with my daughter’s two-and-a-half-year-old child. Just before the Maghrib prayer, I returned home and called for Anita. When I entered the room, I found her lifeless body on the bed with a scarf tightly wrapped around her neck. My husband killed my daughter, and I demand justice.” In the FIR, Taslima mentioned that Amir Hossain, a mason by profession, had arranged Anita’s first marriage to Md. Prakash (35) from Maolahabaspur village seven to eight years ago. After a few years, the couple separated. Later, Anita fell in love with Mahin (35), a local from Ramchandrapur known for his erratic behavior and drug addiction, and married him. Their marriage was marred by frequent disputes due to Mahin’s irresponsible behavior and lack of income. The couple has a three-year-old son named Ohi. Due to ongoing conflicts, Taslima brought Anita and her son to live with her. On July 12, after lunch, Taslima left Anita and Amir at home and took Ohi to a nearby field to graze goats. Upon returning around 5 p.m., she found Anita lying face down in the bedroom. By 7 p.m., she noticed a scarf tightly wrapped around Anita’s neck with no signs of life. She rushed Anita to Bheramara Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared her dead at around 7:40 p.m. Taslima believes that Amir, furious over Anita’s troubled second marriage and the resulting family disputes, premeditatedly killed her to end the ongoing conflicts. Bheramara Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC), Md. Abdul Rob Talukdar, confirmed that Amir Hossain Bepari was arrested on charges of murdering his daughter, Ainun Nahar Anita. The case was filed under Section 302 by the victim’s mother against her husband.
