Father Killed by Drug-Addicted Son in Uzirpur

In a tragic incident in Uzirpur, Barisal, a 65-year-old father, Shah Alam Khan, was killed by his drug-addicted son, Shahariar Shimul (35), on Sunday (July 27) around 2:00 PM. The incident took place in front of Sikdar Bari in Pashchim Khatiyalpara, Ward No. 1 of Barakotha Union, Uzirpur Upazila.

According to Uzirpur Thana police, a family dispute led to Shahariar Shimul attacking his father with a sharp weapon, striking him in the throat, which resulted in Shah Alam Khan’s death at the scene. Locals reported that Shimul’s drug addiction often caused arguments with his father. On Sunday morning, a heated exchange between the two escalated, leading to the fatal attack.

After the incident, local residents found Shah Alam Khan’s bloodied body and informed the police. The police recovered the body and arrested Shimul, who was handed over by the community. The body was sent to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Neighbors shared that Shah Alam Khan, a hardworking daily laborer, had a once-close relationship with his son. Despite financial struggles, he did his best to raise Shimul. However, Shimul’s descent into drug addiction strained their bond, leading to frequent conflicts. Over time, Shimul became resentful due to his father’s attempts to discipline him. A neighbor, Shamsul Haque, expressed disbelief, saying, “Shah Alam worked tirelessly, even going hungry, to raise his son. It’s unimaginable that the same son became the cause of his death. He spent his life trying to bring a smile to his son’s face, only for this tragedy to occur.” Uzirpur Model Thana’s Officer-in-Charge, Md. Abdus Salam, confirmed, “Shimul was arrested immediately after the incident. The body has been recovered and sent to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.”
