How Javed Miandad 'Ruined' Aamir Khan's Wedding Day

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan recently shared how Pakistani cricketer Javed Miandad inadvertently "ruined" his wedding day, leaving him emotionally distressed. In an interview with Indian media outlet *The Lallantop*, Aamir recounted the events surrounding his secret marriage to Reena Dutta in 1986, which ended in divorce in 2002 after 16 years.

Aamir and Reena, who lived in the same neighborhood, fell deeply in love. However, Reena’s family disapproved of their relationship and forbade her from meeting Aamir. Faced with the fear of losing each other, the couple decided to marry secretly in court. According to Indian law, the groom must be at least 21 years old to marry. Aamir, who turned 21 on March 14, 1986, soon tied the knot with Reena.

Recalling the day, Aamir said, “After the wedding, we were scared to return home, worried that people would question why we were late. Fortunately, there was an India-Pakistan cricket match that day, and our families were so engrossed in the game that no one noticed our absence.” However, the same match became a source of disappointment for Aamir. It was the iconic game where Javed Miandad hit a last-ball six, leading Pakistan to victory over India. Aamir shared, “I was watching the match, and that six by Javed Miandad sent me into depression. Later, when I met him on a flight, I told him, ‘Javed Bhai, you weren’t fair. You ruined my wedding day.’ Surprised, he asked, ‘How?’ I explained, ‘That day, you hit a six on the last ball, and I went into depression.’”
Months later, Reena’s family learned about the marriage and was deeply upset. The news was so distressing that Reena’s father suffered a heart attack. However, this incident eventually brought the two families closer. Over time, Reena’s family accepted Aamir, and the bond deepened when Aamir’s younger sister, Farhat, married Reena’s brother, Rajeev. Aamir and Reena have two children, Junaid Khan and Ira Khan.
