Karachi: 27 Killed in Residential Building Collapse

In Karachi, Pakistan, a five-story residential building collapsed, resulting in the deaths of 27 people. The incident occurred around 10 a.m. local time on Friday.

Hasan Khan, a spokesperson for Pakistan’s official rescue service, stated that as of Sunday morning, 27 fatalities have been confirmed. Most of the debris has been cleared, and authorities expect to complete the debris removal by Sunday afternoon.

Authorities reported that the building had previously been declared unsafe. Notices were issued to residents to vacate the premises between 2022 and 2024. However, the building owner and several residents claimed to AFP that they had not received any such notices.
