At a public rally organized by the National Citizen Committee (NCIP) on Sunday night in front of the Saheb Bazar Grand Mosque in Rajshahi city, Nahid Islam, the convener of NCIP, declared, “On August 5, our goal was the fall of fascism. Now, our aim is the reconstruction of Bangladesh. On August 5, our target was Ganabhaban. This time, our target is the National Parliament. We have conquered Ganabhaban, and now we will conquer the National Parliament. In the upcoming election, the youth will celebrate victory.”
The rally took place around 8:15 PM at Saheb Bazar Zero Point in Rajshahi city. Nahid Islam further stated, “But before that, reforms and justice must be ensured. We want to see the trial of the murderer Hasina. We want reforms. We want a new constitution. This generation pledges to the people of Bangladesh a new democratic constitution.” Earlier, around 6:00 PM, the National Citizen Party began a “July March” from the Railgate area of the city. The procession passed through New Market, Alokar Mor, Ganakpara, Saheb Bazar, and Alupatti before concluding at the rally site in front of the Grand Mosque at Saheb Bazar Zero Point. During the rally, Nahid said, “We took to the streets with many dreams. My brother Abu Sayeed stood against police bullets. Many brothers in Rajshahi became martyrs with dreams. Our dream was not just the fall of Sheikh Hasina but the reconstruction of Bangladesh through reforms.” He added, “After August 5, due to conspiracies by various forces, the path to reforms has been obstructed. We admit our mistakes and limitations. But today, we are determined not to repeat those mistakes. We will not give any more chances. We must end autocracy and dynastic rule. We will build a new politics and a new system based on merit and competence.” Nahid Islam further remarked, “Those who say July is just an emotional issue, those who say there’s no need for a constitutional basis for July, we must show them that on August 3, we will unite against the Mujibist constitution. Those who do not want to give July a place in the constitution or legal framework are paving the way for the return of Mujibism. They have declared themselves the new guardians of Mujibism. We must build resistance against these guardians of Mujibism.” The event was moderated by NCIP’s chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary. Other speakers included member secretary Akhtar Hossain, senior joint member secretary Tasneem Zara, northern region chief organizer Sarjis Alam, southern region chief organizer Hasnat Abdullah, northern region organizer Imran Imon, and Rajshahi metropolitan chief coordinator Md. Mobashsher Ali. Following the rally, the party inaugurated its metropolitan office in the Ganakpara area of the city.Sunday, July 6, 2025
