NCP to Hold Nationwide Protests Today in Response to Attack in Gopalganj

The National Citizen’s Party (NCP) has announced nationwide protests today, Thursday, in response to an attack on its program in Gopalganj. The announcement was made by NCP Convener Nahid Islam during a press conference held on Wednesday night at the Khulna Press Club.

During the press conference, Nahid Islam issued a 24-hour ultimatum for the arrest of the attackers. He stated that as part of the NCP’s month-long program, “July March to Build the Nation,” marking the one-year anniversary of the July Mass Uprising, the party has been visiting every district in the country to share the uprising’s message, outline NCP’s commitments, and listen to local issues. As part of this initiative, the party held a program in Gopalganj on Wednesday, which had been announced well in advance. However, Nahid alleged that “Mujibist terrorists” attacked their program in Gopalganj with the intent to kill NCP and Mass Uprising leaders in a militant-style assault.

Nahid Islam further claimed that after concluding their rally in Gopalganj and heading toward Madaripur, Awami League “terrorists” attacked their motorcade. He described the attackers as “fascist Awami League terrorists” and “Mujibist terrorists” who used homemade weapons and opened fire in a highly planned attempt to assassinate NCP and Mass Uprising leaders. In response to the attack, anti-fascist organizations have already held protests, for which Nahid expressed gratitude. The NCP will now hold protests across the country today.
Nahid also highlighted that NCP workers’ families in Gopalganj are facing threats. He demanded that those responsible for the planned attack be arrested within 24 hours. Additionally, he announced that the NCP aims to visit all 64 districts of the country within 30 days as part of their challenge. As per their pre-scheduled plan, a rally in Faridpur will take place today, and public gatherings will continue as planned.
