PBI: Youth Killed Over Alleged Relationships with Wife and Daughter; Accused Confess in Court

The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has unraveled the mystery behind the murder of a 22-year-old youth, Imtiaz, whose body was found with his throat slit on the roadside in Cumilla’s Titash upazila. The body was recovered on July 12 from the Homna-Gouripur regional highway in the Jiyarkandi Gulbag area. A murder case was filed by the victim’s family the following day.

In a press conference on Thursday (July 17), PBI announced that they had cracked the case. According to their investigation, Imtiaz, hailing from Barishal, had an extramarital affair with a man’s wife and later became involved with the man’s daughter. Upon discovering these relationships, the man lured Imtiaz from his home and killed him, with assistance from his son and brother-in-law.

PBI Cumilla’s Police Superintendent Mohammad Sarwar Alam stated, “Three individuals involved in the murder have been arrested, and they have given confessional statements in court.” The victim, Imtiaz, was the son of Md. Dulal Howladar from Ratanpur (Chilmari) village in Barishal’s Kazirhat Thana. Following the incident, his father filed a murder case against unknown perpetrators at Titash Thana. On Tuesday night, PBI conducted raids in Dhaka’s Kamrangirchar and Sher-e-Bangla Nagar areas, arresting the main suspect, his son, and his brother-in-law. Police Superintendent Mohammad Sarwar Alam added, “After the murder case was filed, PBI launched a shadow investigation. With the help of information technology, we arrested the three suspects. Based on their statements, we seized a maroon-colored old Noah car used in the crime and recovered Imtiaz’s mobile phone from a drawer next to the driver’s seat. On Wednesday, the accused gave confessional statements in a Cumilla court.” Quoting the accused’s confessions, the police superintendent further revealed, “The main accused is a driver by profession, operating in Dhaka while his family resides in Barishal. Imtiaz had developed a relationship with the accused’s wife years ago and later with his daughter. This prompted the accused to plan his murder. On July 10, Imtiaz was lured to Dhaka under the pretext of going for a ride and was taken to Titash, Cumilla, where he was killed.” However, Imtiaz’s father denied any illicit relationship between his son and the accused’s wife, claiming that Imtiaz only had a romantic relationship with the accused’s daughter. He demanded justice for his son’s killers.
