Miscreants Set Fire to NCP Arch in Narayanganj at Midnight

In Narayanganj, miscreants set fire to an arch constructed to mark the arrival of central leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP). The incident occurred around 3:30 AM on Thursday (July 17) in the College Road area of the city, partially damaging the arch.

NCP leaders have alleged that activists of the banned Chhatra League are behind the attack. However, the police stated that the perpetrators have not yet been identified, and an investigation is underway.

Ahmedur Rahman Tanu, a member of NCP’s central committee, said, “Around 3:30 AM, a group of miscreants set fire to the arch we had set up. We believe some terrorists from the banned Chhatra League are responsible for this act. A significant portion of the arch was burnt. When the night guard noticed the incident and approached, the miscreants fled.” He further stated that local NCP leaders and activists rushed to the scene immediately after the incident and informed the police. The party has strongly condemned the act and demanded the swift identification and prosecution of those responsible. Tarek Al Mehedi, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) in Narayanganj, said, “We learned about the incident in the morning. We have not yet confirmed who is behind it, but the matter is being investigated seriously. If necessary, CCTV footage and other evidence will be reviewed.” The incident has created tension in the area. Police have intensified patrols at the site and increased surveillance to maintain calm.
