Robbers Posing as DB Police Loot Money and Gold from Expatriate Family

An expatriate family from London was robbed in the Banani cemetery area of Dhaka after exiting Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Posing as Detective Branch (DB) police, the robbers looted money, gold ornaments, and an iPhone from the family. The incident occurred early Tuesday morning, and a case has been filed at Banani Police Station.

According to police, citing the family, the robbers took gold ornaments worth Tk 1.5 million, some cash, and US dollars. The robbers held the family hostage and intimidated them, leaving them traumatized. The family has chosen not to disclose their identities due to the trauma.

Banani Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rasel Sarwar told that a group of individuals, posing as DB police, stopped the microbus carrying the expatriate family. The robbers used a light similar to those used by regular police to signal vehicles to stop. After halting the vehicle, they snatched the family’s bags and fled. A case has been filed in connection with the incident. Police suspect that the robbers had been following the family from the airport.
