Robbery in Mirpur: Four, Including Two Former Army Personnel, Remanded

A court in Dhaka has granted a seven-day remand for four individuals, including a former lieutenant and a corporal, in connection with a robbery at a residence in the Mirpur DOHS area of the capital. The Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court issued the order on Monday afternoon following a police application.

The individuals remanded are Lieutenant (Retd.) Arif Ahmed Firoz Iftekhar, Corporal Mukul Hossain, Harun Or Rashid, and Montasir Ahmed. The police sought a 10-day remand for interrogation, while the defense requested bail and opposed the remand. After hearing both sides, the court granted a seven-day remand for each of the accused.

The robbery case was filed at Pallabi Police Station by a woman named Hosne Ara, accusing Lieutenant Iftekhar and three others. The four were arrested by police on Sunday. According to the case details, around 2:00 PM on Sunday, the accused, posing as members of a detective agency and the army, demanded entry into the residence, claiming there were illegal weapons and drugs inside. They forcibly entered the house, intimidated the complainant’s daughter and domestic help, and looted valuables before fleeing. The flat where the robbery occurred belongs to a retired major. Following the incident, a chase led to the interception of a vehicle linked to the suspects.
As per the case, the robbers stole a gold chain weighing three bhories, a pair of diamond earrings, an old laptop, four mobile phones, and various bank cheques from the residence.
