Cesc Fabregas, the coach of Serie A club Como and a Spanish football legend, has hinted at the possibility of seeing football icon Lionel Messi donning Como’s jersey in the future. However, the former Spanish midfielder and Messi’s friend also noted that the Argentine superstar is currently content playing in the United States.
Recently, Messi’s wife, Antonela Roccuzzo, and their children were spotted in the stands during Como’s pre-season match against Lille, sparking speculation about whether Messi might be considering a move to the scenic city of Lake Como in Italy.
In a press conference, Fabregas clarified that the visit was purely a friendly one, stating, “Antonela stayed at our house for a week while Leo was playing in Cincinnati and New York. Our families are very close—our wives share a great friendship, and our children are of similar ages.”
Despite this, Fabregas did not entirely rule out the possibility of Messi joining Como. Responding to journalists, he said, “I told Como’s sporting director Ludi that we can at least say Messi hasn’t played for Como, but his kids have played here! As for the future, you never know—‘never say never!’”
Messi’s current contract with Inter Miami runs until December 2025, and discussions for a new deal are already underway. However, Fabregas’ comments have opened the door to exciting possibilities for the future.
Under Fabregas’ leadership, Como finished 10th in their debut Serie A season last year. Fabregas himself is contracted with the club until 2028. Whether Messi will indeed answer his friend’s call and join Como remains to be seen, but only time will tell.
