Student Protests at Milestone College, Confrontation with Advisers

Students at Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka, staged protests and a sit-in on Tuesday morning. Around 10:30 AM, two advisers—Law Adviser Asif Nazrul and Education Adviser C.R. Abrar—visited the college campus. As they attempted to leave, students surrounded them, expressing their grievances through protests.

The advisers, accompanied by college teachers, moved to a conference room on the ground floor of Building No. 5 for discussions with five to seven student representatives. Meanwhile, hundreds of students continued their protests outside, raising demands that included the disclosure of accurate names and identities of the deceased, a complete and error-free list of the injured, compensation for the families of affected students, and the replacement of outdated and risky Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft with modern, safer ones.[](https://greenwatchbd.com/campus/81505/students-protest-deadly-air-force-crash-at-milestone) The students had planned a sit-in at the campus starting at 9:00 AM. However, around 9:15 AM, an announcement from the Diabari Army Camp prohibited gatherings, protests, or sit-ins in the Diabari roundabout and surrounding areas. Despite the restrictions, a large crowd, including curious onlookers and grieving families searching for their loved ones, gathered around the college. Amir Hossain, a security guard at Milestone School, reported that people began arriving at the campus as early as dawn. “We are only requesting people to look and leave without crowding,” he said. On Tuesday morning, residential students were seen leaving the Haider Ali Hostel, located behind the building where the crash occurred. Parents arrived to take their children home. Salauddin Ahmed, a parent, recounted, “When I heard the news at noon, I was terrified. Later, I learned my son was safe.” A teacher, Afrin, stated that the damaged building was primarily used for the primary section. She noted that it remains unclear how many students were in the affected classrooms at the time of the crash. On Monday afternoon, a Bangladesh Air Force training fighter jet crashed into a building at Milestone School and College, resulting in the deaths of 27 students, as confirmed by the Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant, Dr. Md. Sayedur Rahman. He added that 78 individuals are currently receiving treatment across four hospitals.[](https://edition.cnn.com/2025/07/21/asia/bangladesh-air-force-jet-dhaka-school-intl) Rassel Talukdar, the director of Milestone College, informed that a help desk has been set up under Building No. 1 to collect and update information about the casualties. Teachers are managing the desk, where parents are providing and receiving information.
