Students Threaten Road Blockade if Demands Unmet by 12:30 PM

Hundreds of students gathered in front of Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka, starting at 10 AM, to protest following a tragic plane crash that caused loss of life and injuries. The students, mourning the incident, began demonstrations with a six-point demand.

From their protest platform, the students announced that if government representatives do not engage in discussions regarding their demands by 12:30 PM, they will block the road in front of the BNS Center in Uttara.

The students stated, “We understand the government won’t listen to us. We are giving them an ultimatum until 12:30 PM. If they don’t come to talk with us by then, we will block the road. Unless we do so, the government won’t take us seriously.” Earlier, holding banners and placards with messages like “We don’t want justice, we want our children’s bodies” and “We demand an accurate count of the deceased,” the students sat on the road at the roundabout. Despite repeated requests from the police to disperse, the students continued their peaceful sit-in. The protesting students emphasized, “We don’t want violence. But our stance against injustice is clear. Such a massive tragedy has occurred, yet no one is taking responsibility, and no action has been taken against anyone. We demand justice for this injustice.” The students’ six-point demands include: publishing the names and addresses of the deceased, providing an accurate list of the injured, unconditional apologies for mistreatment of teachers, compensation for victims, cancellation of unsafe aircraft, and reforms in training procedures. On Monday (July 21), after 1 PM, a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft crashed in Uttara, hitting a building of Milestone School and College. The aircraft and the school building caught fire immediately. The building housed many school-level students, most of whom were either killed or injured. Following the crash, the Fire Service launched a rescue operation. Eight units from Uttara and surrounding areas brought the fire under control and began rescuing victims. Later, the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Army joined the operation. The injured were airlifted to hospitals via Air Force helicopters.
As of the latest update (Tuesday, 8 AM), the death toll from the crash has risen to 27, with 78 people receiving treatment in various hospitals.
