The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) has clarified that the aircraft that crashed into a building of Milestone School and College in Uttara, Dhaka, was not a training plane but a fighter jet.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, ISPR addressed the issue, stating, "Some media outlets have reported that the aircraft involved in the Milestone incident was a training plane. We respectfully clarify that it was a fighter jet suitable for combat operations, which was being used for training purposes."
According to ISPR, the FT-7 BGI fighter jet, manufactured in China, took off from the Air Force’s A.K. Khandaker Base in Kurmitola at 1:06 PM on Monday. Shortly after takeoff, the jet crashed into a two-story building on the school premises due to a mechanical failure.
In a briefing on Tuesday morning, the Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant, Professor Sayedur Rahman, stated that the incident claimed 27 lives, with 171 people injured. Currently, 78 individuals are receiving treatment in various hospitals.
Following the crash, the school building caught fire, leading to cries of agony from injured children and frantic searches by parents and relatives, creating a heart-wrenching scene in the surrounding area.
