Loss of Lives in Plane Crash, July 22 Declared National Mourning Day

The government of Bangladesh has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives caused by the crash of a Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft onto Milestone College in the capital. The Cabinet Division has declared tomorrow, Tuesday, July 22, as a half-day national mourning day.

A notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Monday, July 21, confirmed these details. The notification, signed by Cabinet Secretary Dr. Sheikh Abdur Rashid under the directive of the President, stated that the crash of the Bangladesh Air Force training aircraft into an educational institution resulted in the tragic deaths of many individuals at the scene. The government is deeply saddened by this incident.

The notification further stated that on July 22, all government, semi-government, autonomous institutions, and educational establishments across the country will lower the national flag to half-mast. Bangladesh missions abroad will also observe the same protocol. Additionally, special prayers will be held in mosques nationwide on Tuesday to pray for the salvation of the deceased and the recovery of the injured. Other religious institutions have been requested to organize special prayers as well. The incident occurred when a Bangladesh Air Force F-7 BJI model training aircraft crashed in the Diabari area of the capital, claiming the lives of many, including school students.
