A woman was brutally murdered and dismembered into 11 pieces in her home in the Roufabad area under Bayezid Bostami Police Station in Chattogram city. The incident occurred around 1:00 AM on Wednesday night in a ninth-floor apartment. The victim’s husband has been missing since the incident, and police suspect him to be the perpetrator.
The deceased has been identified as Fatema Begum, and her husband’s name is Mohammad Sumon.
According to the police, a knife and a cleaver were used in the murder. The victim’s body was cut into pieces, with flesh separated from bones, and the 11 pieces were left scattered on the floor as the killer fled.
Mohammad Kamruzzaman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bayezid Bostami Police Station, told *Prothom Alo* that the police recovered the body after receiving information at night and sent it to the morgue at Chattogram Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. Preparations are underway to file a case at the police station.
OC Kamruzzaman further stated that Fatema and Sumon were married 10 years ago and have an eight-year-old child. Sumon is a pickup van driver by profession. At the time of the incident, only the couple was present in the house, as their child was staying at a relative’s place.
The OC noted that the murder was carried out in a premeditated and cold-blooded manner. He added that the incident stemmed from ongoing domestic disputes. Fatema and Sumon had been quarreling for a long time. The victim’s body bore multiple injury marks, and her entire body was mutilated before being dismembered into 11 pieces.
