The deceased, identified as Jamal Hossain (22), was the son of Mazharul Islam, also known as Mozammel Hossain, from Polianpur village. The assailant, his elder brother Ujjol Hossain (32), is currently absconding.
According to local residents and the victim’s family, Jamal Hossain was eating rice at home on Monday morning when his elder brother Ujjol Hossain accused him of eating without working. In a fit of rage, Ujjol stabbed Jamal in the stomach and chest with a knife he was holding, resulting in Jamal’s death at the scene.
Kazirber Union Parishad Chairman Yanabi stated, “I learned that due to an argument over not working, the elder brother stabbed the younger brother in the stomach with a knife, leading to his death on the spot.”
Maheshpur Thana’s Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) Sajjad Hossain confirmed that preliminary information suggests the younger brother died at the scene due to a knife attack by the elder brother following a verbal altercation. The body was recovered from the scene and sent to the Jhenaidah morgue for autopsy. The elder brother remains at large.
