In Pakundia, Kishoreganj, a 62-year-old auto-rickshaw driver named Md. Sultan died after being drugged and robbed of his vehicle by a gang. Police have arrested two suspects, identified through CCTV footage, and believe three others are involved in the crime.
The arrested individuals are Hiru Sheikh (45), son of the late Jasim Uddin from Gopinathpur, Gopalganj, and Biplob (45), son of the late Afaz Uddin from Amati Shibpur, Kishoreganj Sadar Upazila. The arrests were made on Saturday night (August 16, 2025) during a raid at a residential hotel in Kishoreganj town by Pakundia Thana police.
According to police, on August 3, 2025, around 7 a.m., Sultan, a resident of Bagpara village in Patuavanga Union, left home to drive his auto-rickshaw as usual. Near the Pakundia Upazila Parishad Mosque, a group drugged him with a sedative-laced drink and stole his vehicle. Locals later found him unconscious and took him to Pakundia Health Complex, from where he was referred to Kishoreganj General Hospital. The next day, while being transferred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment, Sultan passed away.
Following a complaint filed by Sultan’s wife, Mosa. Mina Akter, on August 8, police reviewed CCTV footage to identify the suspects. Using technological assistance, they conducted a raid at a residential hotel in Ujan Bhati, Kishoreganj, and arrested the two suspects.
Pakundia Thana’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sakhawat Hossain stated that police recovered Tk18,000 in cash from the sale of the stolen auto-rickshaw and two motorcycles used in the crime. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects and recover the stolen vehicle.
