Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal Rally Begins in Shahbag, Tarique Rahman Joins Virtually

The Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, the student wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), commenced a rally in Shahbag, Dhaka, with a recitation of the Holy Quran. The event officially started around 3:15 PM on Sunday, August 3, 2025, although it was scheduled to begin at 2:30 PM.

Tarique Rahman, the acting chairman of BNP and the organizational guardian of Chhatra Dal, joined the rally virtually from London. He is set to deliver the chief guest’s speech. Following the Quran recitation, the national anthem was performed.

The rally is part of a month-long program marking the anniversary of the July-August mass uprising. The event has transformed Shahbag into a sea of people, with a stage set up facing the TSC from Shahbag intersection. The crowd extends from Matsya Bhaban on one side, Katabon intersection on another, and up to the Fine Arts Institute. Leaders and activists from Dhaka and various parts of the country have gathered for the rally. As the day progressed, the crowd grew, with small processions joining the main event. Participants were seen chanting slogans intermittently, holding national and party flags.
The rally began with a welcome speech by Chhatra Dal’s organizing secretary, Aman Ullah Aman, followed by a speech from senior joint secretary Shyamal Malum. The event is being presided over by Chhatra Dal president Rakibul Islam Rakib and moderated by general secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir. BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, along with former Chhatra Dal leaders, is present on the stage.
