In Lalmonirhat’s Hatibandha, police recovered the body of a young auto driver named Ariful Islam, alias Pichtul (32), from a river. Locals suspect he was killed, and his auto was stolen by miscreants.
On Wednesday (August 20), the body was retrieved from the Jamabari Small Sati River in the Kasim Bazar area of Bhelaguri Union in the upazila.
The deceased, Ariful Islam, alias Pichtul, was the son of the late Maruf Hossain from Aditmari Upazila in Lalmonirhat district. He was an auto driver by profession.
According to local and family sources, Ariful left home on Monday (August 18) afternoon to drive his auto. He went missing thereafter. On Wednesday afternoon, locals spotted a body floating in the Jamabari Small Sati River in the Kasim Bazar area and informed the police. The police later recovered the body and identified it.
Regarding the incident, Hatibandha Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mahamudun Nabi said, “The body of a young man was recovered from the river. It will be sent to Lalmonirhat for an autopsy.”
