Case Filed Against Two Doctors and Three Others for Teen’s Death Due to Alleged Medical Negligence in Savar

Savar, August 20, 2025 – A case has been filed against two doctors and three others in connection with the death of a 13-year-old boy, Ratul, allegedly due to medical negligence at a private hospital in Savar. The family of the deceased lodged the complaint, accusing the hospital staff of negligence during treatment.

The officer-in-charge (OC) of Savar Model Police Station, Jewel Miah, confirmed the case to *Dhaka Post* on Wednesday night. Earlier that morning, Ratul’s father, Zahidul Islam, filed the case at the same police station. Ratul was the son of Zahidul Islam from Kartigram, Manikganj Sadar Upazila.

The accused include Dr. Asif Al Hasan Mehedi (alias Anik), 45, an ENT specialist; Dr. Shahanaz, 45; and hospital authorities Shamim Ahmed, 52; Babul, 65; and Asad, 45, all associated with Savar Specialized Hospital. According to the case FIR, Ratul was admitted to Savar Specialized Hospital at Thana Bus Stand on Monday (August 18) afternoon due to tonsil issues. Doctors recommended surgery, which was performed that night. After the operation, Ratul was moved to a cabin, where his relatives noticed bleeding from his nose and that his oxygen supply was disconnected. Despite informing the hospital nurses and staff multiple times, no immediate action was taken. Ratul was later taken back to the operation theater, after which doctors advised transferring him to Enam Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Upon arrival, doctors at Enam Medical College declared Ratul dead.
OC Jewel Miah told *Dhaka Post* that the case was filed due to the patient’s death caused by alleged negligence. Police operations to arrest the accused are ongoing.
